Concrete Clippings with Lucy Vardy

Observing, noticing, focusing. Using your senses to absorb your surroundings, this workshop will highlight fragments of the land. Encountering objects and connecting yourselves to the local area, you will examine the fragile commonalities that build up our everyday lives. Beginning with zine making, workshop participants will create a vessel to hold the contents of their journey. Zines in hand, you’ll explore the surroundings of the gallery, being attentive to drain covers usually walked over, signage taken in at a glance, and surfaces lying dormant, waiting for our intervention. Then, using play-doh, you will take imprints of textures, embellishments, and surfaces. Transferring these traces of our surroundings to our zines, each participant will have generated an archive, a reference to reflect, but also a connection made between person and place.

This workshop is accessible for all ages and abilities. All materials will be provided, but if you’d like to make extra prints, please bring your own sketchbook or paper.
