Bio-Sculpt & Stich with Jas Sproule
Saturday 18th October, 2-5pm

Join us for a workshop exploring the innovative and sustainable world of bioplastics! This session is perfect for artists, makers, designers, and anyone curious about creating beautiful, functional objects while moving toward a plastic-free future.

The workshop aims to demystify the process of cooking up bioplastics using simple, kitchen-friendly ingredients, learning fundamental recipes and techniques to create a versatile, biodegradable material.

The workshop is split into two creative approaches:

Option 1: Bioplastic Collage and Casting
Option 1 will be learning to cast and mould your own bioplastic sheets and sculptural forms. We'll explore the idea of a physical collage, suspending foraged botanicals, flowers, and collected waste (like single-use plastics and packaging) within the clear bioplastic to create unique, window-like panels and embedded artworks. You'll leave with your own stunning, experimental collages that give new life to debris.

Option 2: Fibre Art and Bioplastic Yarn
The second option will shift from casting to textiles. You'll discover how to transform the wet bioplastic into a flexible, thread-like material. We will then learn techniques for working with this unique material, experimenting with knitting or crocheting it into small forms and samples. This is a chance to explore a groundbreaking, sustainable alternative to synthetic yarns.

This workshop's goal is to provide basic recipes to experiment and sample. By exploring different forms and properties of varying bioplastics we hope to hone skills across sculpture and textile making and show the versatility and accessibility in sustainable practice. All materials, including bioplastic ingredients and tools, will be provided. Please bring a creative and open mind and perhaps some small items such as dried flowers, interesting scraps or colourful thread that you would like in your collage.
