Surface is delighted to present Civil War Pilgrim, a multichannel video and sound installation by Ioannis Panagiotou.

Civil War Pilgrim is a multichannel video and sound installation that explores inherited memories from the Greek Civil War (1946–1949). Combining oral history, performance, and composition, it examines how trauma, displacement, and exile persist across generations, shaping identity and belonging. The trilogy stages reimagined fragments of family narratives as performance actions filmed in the landscapes of England and Scotland, where the artist lived during the creation of the work. Accompanied by an original score performed by the Edinburgh Contemporary Ensemble, the piece transforms these memories into an abstract pilgrimage through sound, gesture, and landscape.
