Street Art Festival 2021
23rd July  – 13th August
Launch Party: Friday 22nd July, 6pm 10pm

This Summer at Surface sees the return of the most anarchic, the most spectacular show in town: the Nottingham Street Art Festival. This hugely popular exhibition supports and promotes Nottingham’s vibrant alternative art scene by showcasing some of today’s best local talent.

The exhibition will again occupy our three-story building, and feature a salon-style hang with artwork packed from floor to ceiling. The central exhibition spills out onto the alley walls at the back of the gallery where you’ll discover work by some of Nottingham’s finest.

The Street Art Festival launches with a DJ set from the enigmatic Osbourne Identity, and an old school new school set of jazz funk, hip-hop, soul and all stops in between. You’ll also be able to sample some authentic Caribbean street food from The Chef's Cottage: known for the best Caribbean food truck in town! As always, there will be a donations bar with a range of ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.

Prizes will be awarded on the night by our panel of judges: Marcus Method, internationally acclaimed street artist, Chris Lawton, Skate Nottingham and Skateboard GB, and Finsbury Park Deltics, 2022 Street Art Festival prizewinner. The prizes will be announced by MC Jason Loftus, probably the biggest voice in town.

Skin and Bone
Saturday 6th August, 2pm

The festival features an event from Skin and Bone, three percussionists who weave kit, gongs, African drums, home-made instruments, field recordings and electronics into one rather unusual sound tapestry. Expect grooves, abstraction, polyrhythms, sounds both fresh and unexpected. Skin and Bone are Walt Shaw, George Grignon and Greg Rawson.

This is a great opportunity to pick up some terrific art at affordable prices.
