The garden is an environment that has been constructed, where we reject the unruly and unclassified for the collected and the controlled. The process of collage as a medium in my paintings emulates this mediated construction. I create my own media for collage through the integration of my own botanical paintings and photographs. By enhancing, editing and layering imagery, the landscapes construct an unattainable, artificial perfection, where nature and artifices distinctions become indistinct in this contemporary setting. The outcome is a collection of toxic landscapes and collaged forms that explore notions of beauty and artificiality as they relate to the environment.
