Open Show 2009
We are now looking for applications to this year’s Open Show which will be exhibiting late July. Work in any medium is accepted and in fact encouraged, as we like to represent the wide diversity of styles and media being employed in art today. Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 works for consideration, each work will entail a £10 fee. From the submissions a selection will be made with consideration given to individual merit and for the support of emerging artists.
[Please note: As a completely voluntary, non-for-profit organisation, recieving no funding, we would like to thank you all for your continued support through our ‘Open Show’ & ‘Post Card’ Show events]. We hope to put on an ambitious exhibition, building upon the success of the previous year’s Shows in our newer, larger venue. Full details are in the form, downloaded below.

Photoshoot Space Hire
Due to the new locations fantastic top floor, boasting excellent lighting and large space, we are offering it for hire on a day and half day rate for photoshoots. Please see our full advert below and download an application form. Images of the space to be on the website by 4th May.

Details about the space
The space is ideal for photo shoots, boasting brilliant natural light through huge skylights in the ceiling, and five large sash windows. The floor is part of Surface Gallery’s fantastic arts complex and is set to be renovated into artist’s studios later in 2009. Surface Gallery is fast becoming a lively hub for Nottingham arts, and this is an opportunity to be part of the gallery’s evolution, as well as to bag a great location for a shoot.
Photographer John Issac used the four-story building as professional photographic studios for over 40 years before Surface Gallery moved in, in December 2008. We are proud to preserve this photography heritage by offering creative individuals the chance to hire the space.
Space Availability
12am – 6pm Tuesday – Friday
11am – 5pm Saturday – Sunday
Monday slots and extended hours are negotiable.
Application Policy
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Whether the dates wanted to hire the space are available, and
- Has a deposit of half the amount has been received
Prices
Standard day rate
£70 for 6 hour slot - £15 per hour thereafter
Student day rate
£55 for 6 hour slot - £10 per hour thereafter

Regular Submission
Surface Gallery is actively seeking proposals for our 2009 exhibition programme.
All types of work will be considered and selected on individual merit, not on the profile of the artist(s) involved. We accept proposals from groups and curators as well as individuals.

Surface Gallery offers a very varied and diverse exhibition programme, selected largely through proposals submitted to the gallery.
The exhibition programme aims to support emerging artists by offering them a high quality space in which to exhibit work.
The gallery is keen to encourage artists to be ambitious in their practice and use the space to try out new ideas.
