Turbulence - Open Show 2007

Private View: Tuesday 31st July 6pm - 8pm

August 1st to August 25th 2007

This is an opportunity to view a sample of current contemporary practice from new and emerging artists in one space within the Gallery.

Following an open call for submissions eighteen artists have been selected by Surface Gallery .The final selection includes a mix of film, drawing, paintings, photography, sound, sculpture and installation. From these eighteen artists two will be chosen to exhibit an array of their work in the Surface gallery in 2008.

The surface gallery is transformed into a whirlwind of ‘Turbulence’ by Nicola Pomery’s work cascading from the ceiling as 800m of material protrude the gallery corner, whilst a local Nottingham artist Ben Brady’s work, ‘Ideal book for boys (1939)’, lies silently inviting the viewer for a closer and more in-depth look, the artist plays with our ‘transcription of thoughts.. trying to grasp at meaning, experience and feeling.’

The turbulence of this exhibition is evident as you enter the gallery and are led through an array of Dashes and hyphens, cut out intricately from newspapers and cleverly brought together creating ‘an intensive space for reflection’. As you Delve deeper into the gallery pink lawn mowers, lamps dripping with tea spoons and sculptures made from blobs of paint all come together to create the turmoil and commotion that is ‘Turbulence’ the open show of 2007.

The show will launch on Tuesday 31st July at 6.00pm when you are welcome to come down and meet the artists.

Featured artists include:
Ian Nesbitt, Sam Mercer, Mark Selby, Margarita Tsvaygenbaum, Sarah Maple, Joanne Lamming, Nicola Pomery, Nicola Dale, Anna Keleher, Ben Brady, Lucy Renshaw, Faye Peacock, Matthew Atkinson, Helen Grundy, Paul Hockett, Ruth Bridges, Alexander Dipple, Rowan Dejardin.
