Transient

July 16th to July 25th 2008

Graduate photographic artists Victoria Siddle and Stephen Turner present two collaborative contemporary works. Exploring themes such as the in-between space, transience, performance, installation and presence.

Victoria Siddle

‘Between opalescence’

In the lull between dream state and wake, time is distorted as we fall though the cracks to the quiet place behind our eyelids. Soon our bodies begin to stir us, and we have lost our storyline.

Following different light and seasons in the same location, and using the transient nature of falling tissue paper I have explored the in-between space. This place where movement and static interchange. Somewhere remembered that seems different upon every visit, an awkward meeting place where we feel unsure if we belong.

Stephen Turner

‘Eve’ ‘Prometheus’ ‘Pandora’

Using simple spot lights and photographic glass plates, I create a phantasmagoric space exploring myths and the metonymic function of symbols. Altering the traditional photography format to involve a greater sense of materiality and presence, whilst the process and performance in an image’s construction is apparent.
