This October Surface Gallery will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary and to mark this special occasion the gallery will be hosting a special volunteer exhibition. ‘Ten Years of Surface’ aims to celebrate and explore the past ten years of the gallery as a volunteer-run arts organisation, whilst giving both past, and current, volunteers the opportunity to exhibit work in the gallery space for this unique show.

This October Surface Gallery will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and to mark this special occasion the gallery will be hosting a special volunteer exhibition. ‘Ten Years of Surface’ aims to celebrate and explore the past ten years of the gallery as a volunteer-run arts organisation, whilst giving both past, and current, volunteers the opportunity to exhibit work in the gallery space for this unique show.
The exhibition will comprise of an array of art from our talented volunteers. Coming from a broad range of backgrounds the exhibition will showcase a diverse and exciting selection of contemporary art practice that has contributed to, and developed, as part of the growing vibrant Nottingham arts scene. Ten Years of Surface looks to include painting, photography, installation, video, mixed media and performance based art.
The exhibition will also feature a special project Surface Cartography created and developed by gallery volunteers. Surface Cartography is an ongoing project which will explore the gallery’s vast history of volunteers and aims to map out volunteer involvement over the past 10 years. The project wishes to celebrate the individuals who have made the gallery successful and reflect upon how the experience of volunteering at Surface Gallery has influenced and made an impact on their future career paths.
Also, be prepared for a trip down memory Lane as we reflect on the history of the gallery and its development over the past 10 years. We will explore from its beginnings as Turtle Arts, to the move to its current venue at Southwell Road, and also a look to the future of the gallery and its current development as a contemporary Art and Studio space in Nottingham.
On Friday 9th of October we will be holding Surface Gallery’s Birthday Party. Join us for this special event to celebrate ten of years of Surface, where there will be live DJ sets, special drinks, birthday cake, and the opportunity to view the work on show for the very first time.
