Radiator: Festival and Symposium 2009
Exploits in the Wireless City
January 15th to January 24th 2009
As part of this year’s Radiator festival Surface Gallery will be hosting the exhibition ‘Exploits in the Wireless City’. Three artists will be presenting their works as an exploration upon how data networks, virtual mapping and other digital simulation effects our negotiation and perception of the ‘real’ physical world. For more information upon the rest of the festival see the Radiator Festival website.
The 4th Radiator festival & symposium, “Exploits in the Wireless City”, aims to instigate discussion and debate based on the understanding that the development of digital networks are transforming our notion of (public and private) space.
In its critique, Radiator will question the opportunities, future strategies and implementations that artists and communities face when learning to act within these new hybrid city spaces.
Through its artistic interventions, Radiator will put theory into practice with projects and events that both position and challenge the dominant forces at work in the urban environment and explore the new territories opened up by hybrid space.
Events
As part of 'Radiator: Festival and Symposium 2009', we held several events over the course of the exhibition. See below for further details.
An opportunity to sample some food and beverages, mix and mingle with the art crowd whilst seeing the work of the three artists exhibiting at the Surface Gallery as part of this year’s Radiator festival. Candice Jacobs, Sebastian Craig and Stanza’s work all draws attention to how our interaction with ephemeral data residing in media networks effects our understanding and negotiation of the ‘real’ physical world.
For more information on the individual artist’s work, please see their entry at the Radiator festival website: Exploits in the Wireless City
