The Postcard Show 2007
Anyone can make art - Anyone can buy art

The Postcard Show is one of Surface Gallery’s most exciting and eclectic exhibitions. Each year sees a new set of volunteers rise to the challenge of organising and displaying a massive body of new work from all over the UK and far beyond – previous years have seen over 300 entrants submitting over 1000 postcards.

The brief is both open and restrictive, encouraging entrants to produce unique original art-works within a prescribed format – a standard 6 x 4” postcard. The postcards represent all styles of work and come from artists working in an amazing array of media – from painting and drawing, through to photography, book-making, mosaic, sculpture and even sound. The most interesting entries manage to stretch these parameters and surprise the viewer with what can be done with a format that seems so defined – the joy of the exhibition is in the variety of interpretations.

All entries are exhibited, and all are available to buy. We welcome work from artists of any level of experience and any standing. The work shown represents a diverse cross section of art-makers: 2-D and 3-D, local and national, emerging and established, young and old.

As well as offering artists a chance to produce and exhibit work, it also offers visitors a chance to buy a unique and original piece of art for a very reasonable price – just £20.
