Surface Gallery presents Open Show 2010 which this year will be held between 20th July
and 7th August 2010.
This exciting annual exhibition once again explores new creative avenues and encourages
unique and experimental work. Open Show provides up and coming artists with the
opportunity to enter and compete in an international open call out exhibition, and acts as a
platform for showcasing individual art pieces non basis of artists background and previous
achievements.

opportunity to enter and compete in an international open call out exhibition, and acts as a
platform for showcasing individual art pieces non basis of artists background and previous
achievements.
This year the Surface Gallery curatorial team have selected over 30 art pieces from
27 different artists and collectives out of hundreds of entries. This ambitiously curated
selection aims to be a diverse and exciting overview of current contemporary art exploring
a multitude of practises, styles and mediums. The exhibition finalists include local artists,
recent graduates and emerging artists from across Britain and as far and wide as the USA.

Out of the 27 finalists one winner will be selected and awarded a solo show at Surface Gallery in 2011. A panel of established artists and curators based in Nottingham will judge and select the work and the winner will be announced at 7.30pm during the open evening on Monday 19th July. The panel of external judges includes John Newling, Artist and Professor of Installation Sculpture at Nottingham Trent University, Jim Waters, Curator at Nottingham Contemporary, Andrew Brown, Artist and Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts at Nottingham Trent University and Becie Gamble, Artist and Co-Director of Surface Gallery.
Surface Gallery invites you to come and judge the artwork for yourself at the Opening Evening on Monday 19th July between 6-9pm. This will be an opportunity to view the work first time and celebrate this year’s budding artists.

The winner of this years show is Janet Morrow with her sculptural installation ‘Monstorous Birth’
