Myth

September 6th to September 17th 2011

The Myth creative collective is a group of fine art and illustration graduates who came together through their shared love for the fantastical, whimsical, the absurd and the thought-provoking.

Each artist has created work that not only displays their technical ability, but reflects the inner workings of their mind.  Using the concept of ‘myth’ as their starting point, the 13 exhibiting artists have created profound and challenging images that are individual and unique in their approach; lino cut, pencil, digital collage and 3D sculpture are some of the practises featured within the exhibition.  Although each artist has approached the theme in different ways, they all have created their work that deconstructs the meaning of the word ‘myth’ and encourages the viewer to consider the concept in a way that they may not have before.

Exhibiting artists include Adam Batchelor, Ryan Humphrey, Faiiint, Lauren Marina Greaves, Deanne Owen (piEye Design), Benedict Mayer, Sarah Jane Hurst, Joe Cruz, Serena Katt, Anna Brinded, Love Raccoons, Rosie Richards and Billy Clark.

The exhibition runs for two weeks from the 6th September -17th September ’11.

The Private View will be held on Monday 5th September, 6pm – 8pm.

Private View: 13th June 6 – 8pm

‘Palomar’ takes it name from the 1983, Italo Calvino novel, Mr. Palomar. Through the eyes of the title character, the reader goes on a journey of mundane but highly individual and profound musings. Mr. Palomar tries to explain and define his own existence by trying to find order and reason in the complex and chaotic world around him, thus highlighting the mind’s need to break the natural world up into neat categories, so enabling us to understand how it is all put together.

This exhibition will be based on ideas of observation and perception, and brings together the work of Kate Brigden, Dylan Shipton and Pippa Gatty.
