ANNEXINEMA: WRITING
8pm Onwards
July 3rd to July 3rd 2009
£3 Entry
We are happy to host our second Annexinema programme here at Surface Gallary, which takes a broad look at the intersection between film and writing. It includes films by experimental writer B.S. Johnson, fluxus artist Paul Sharits, and conceptual filmmaker David Lamelas.
Other films exhibit words as images (Frederique Devaux), employ nonsense languages (Peter Rose) and deface books (Marysia Lewandowska & Neil Cummings). We take an amusing turn into a dreamlike world in Owen Land’s Remedial Reading Comprehension, and see psychedelic 1960s computer animated poems by Stan Vanderbeek. Above all, these works are characterised by a curiosity of how the written word shapes what we see on screen.

This is a fringe event of ScreenLit, Broadway’s festival of Film, TV & Writing. For more information on ScreenLit events, which include a screenwriting masterclass by Taxi Driver Screenwriter Paul Schrader and Cyburbia: An illustrated talk about how the internet is changing the narrative structure of film and media, please go to http://broadway.org.uk/festival/
