Hexad: NTU Emerge Photo Festival
24th May - 4th June 2016
Opening Night: Monday 23rd May, 18:00-20:00
Hasina Amaneer / Dani Bacon / Beth Barkway / Lindsey Fletcher / Frances Leahy / Mansheng Wong

Surface Gallery is delighted to present Hexad, part of the 20th Nottingham Trent University photography festival, Emerge.

Hexad showcases the work of six final-year photography students. The work explores a range of visual arts, from still photography to moving image, and engages with an eclectic mix of subject matter. Wong’s anthropological study focuses on the consumption of meat in developed society, while Bacon’s Habitual Sleeplessness uses moving image and installation to represent insomnia and sleep deprivation. Barkway explores the universal language of the fairy tale, while Leahy considers the expectations of adulthood. Amaneer’s atmospheric images are concerned with light and beauty, while Fletcher’s work and playful use of colour engages with the everyday.

This year Surface Gallery is host to both Hexad and Batch Collective, two groups from the Emerge Photo Festival, held in multiple venues across Nottingham. Following their visit to Surface Gallery for Fifth Wall, last year’s photo festival, the Nottingham Post remarked on the “very high standard” of photography. This year we are confident that those standards have been equalled--if not surpassed.

Hexad will open in the Main Gallery in conjunction with Batch Collective in the Project Space. The Opening Night will be on Monday 23rd May, 6-8pm. As always there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
