Nott Romeo and Juliet: An Exhibition of Photography and Film

NOTT ROMEO AND JULIET: An Exhibition of Photography and Film
19th to 24th April 2016
Private View: Wednesday 20th April, 5pm to 7pm

Surface Gallery is delighted to present a photographic exhibition documenting the Nott Romeo and Juliet project: a collaborative performance by young musicians and dancers from Sneinton and St Ann’s, developed in partnership between Renewal Trust, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and the Community Recording Studio (CRS).

These images act as a lasting record of the participants’ hard work, a celebration of their achievement and will hope to inspire other young people in the area. The with exhibition will also bring you the opportunity to hear the music produced by hip hop artists from CRS, inspired by the original Prokofiev score for Romeo and Juliet.

“This collaboration with Birmingham Royal Ballet has been really exciting. Bridging the two seemingly polarised worlds of hip hop and ballet has highlighted the unexpected similarities between them. This opportunity has forced the young musicians and dancers we work with to think outside the box artistically and they have all shown great commitment, discipline and teamwork in creating something to be proud of.” - Nick Stez, Co-founder and music producer, CRS

The Private View for the Nott Romeo and Juliet exhibition will be in the main gallery on Wednesday 20th April, 5pm to 7pm. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
